President of the Board, demosEuropa - Centre for European Strategy Foundation, Warsaw Abstract Key Note
The speech will focus on both the macroeconomic framework emerging in Central and Eastern Europe following the financial crisis as well as on policies needed for the region to increase its competitive advantage and complete the catch-up with knowledge-based, innovation-driven economies of Western Europe. The presentation will be set against a projection of global trends and tendencies and their impact on Central and Eastern Europe. Emphasis will be placed on the need for flexibility, knowledge and pro-business policies coupled with financial stability guaranteed by the euro. The presentation will explore the main political and economic challenges to be experienced by CEE countries on the way towards euro membership. It will also review their positions on the future of macro-economic governance in the EU.
