Dr. Mark EMPTAGE Biology Team Leader, DuPont Biorefinery Program, Wilmington


1972 Received B.S in Chemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago 1978 Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Illinois-Urbana 1979-1980 NIH Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry, University of Wisconsin-Madison 1980-1984 Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Scientist at the Institute for Enzyme Research, University of Wisconsin-Madison 1984 Joined DuPont Central Research & Development as a Principle Investigator in biochemisty. Worked on various programs such as discovery of new herbicides and fungicides, fluorine biochemistry and enzyme biocatalysis. 1998-2003 Biochemistry Task leader for the development of successful commercial biocatalyst for production of 1,3-propanediol (PDO) by fermentation since 2004 Biology Team Leader for DuPont's Biorefinery program to make cellulosic ethanol co-funded by the Department of Energy
