Overview of the Scholarship Programme

There are two ways for applying for a scholarship to participate in the European Forum Alpbach. You can apply directly to the European Forum Alpbach (EFA) or to the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN).

The European Forum Alpbach grants scholarships via the European Forum Alpbach Foundation and through partner organisations. The European Forum Alpbach Foundation supports international applicants and in 2016 especially applicants from the following countries: Czech Republic, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden (nationality).The Forum Alpbach Network grants regional scholarships through the Clubs and IGs.

Applications from Austria are processed by the members of the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN) and our partner organisation, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology (please refer to point 1)c).

(a) The European Forum Alpbach Foundation grants scholarships to participate in:

Please note that you can only apply either for the Seminar Week and the Alpbach Symposia or for the Alpbach Professional Programme on European Health Care in combination with the Alpbach Symposia. Please find the respective requirements by clicking on the links above. Deadline for all applications is March 31, 2016 (postmark). Incomplete applications will not be considered.

(b) In cooperation with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA), the European Forum Alpbach awards scholarships supporting students from Southeast and Eastern Europe.

Applicants must be enrolled in degree programmes or have completed higher education degrees and must be from Albania, Armenia, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova and the Ukraine (the ADA priority countries in Southeast and Eastern Europe). Please send your standard application documents to the European Forum Alpbach Foundation and indicate in your letter of motivation that you wish to apply for a scholarship supported by the ADA. You can access the required documents here. Deadline for this scholarship application: March 31, 2016 (postmark). Incomplete applications will not be considered.

(c) The Austrian Federal Ministry for Transport, Innovation and Technology awards scholarships only to Austrian scientific and technical students . Further information can be found in the German version.

(d) In cooperation with the Austrian Integration Fund (OIF), the European Forum Alpbach awards scholarships aimed at promoting the integration of refugees and migrants living in Austria.

Please send your standard application documents to the European Forum Alpbach Foundation and indicate in your letter of motivation that you are applying for a scholarship provided by the ÖIF. You can access the required documents here. Deadline for scholarship applications: March 31, 2016 (postmark) Incomplete applications will not be considered.

(e) As general partner of the European Forum Alpbach 2016, Swarovski awards scholarships to students enrolled in design, innovation and entrepreneurship.

Please send your standard application documents to the European Forum Alpbach Foundation and indicate in your letter of motivation that you are applying for a scholarship provided by Swarovski. You can access the required documents here. Deadline for scholarship applications: March 31, 2016 (postmark) Incomplete applications will not be considered.

(f) The ERSTE Foundation awards scholarships to applicants from various backgrounds (culture, politics, economy, media, education etc.) with a strong civil society engagement from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia or Ukraine.

Please send your standard application documents to the European Forum Alpbach Foundation, indicating in your letter of motivation that you are applying for a scholarship provided by the ERSTE Foundation and elaborate on your civil society engagement. You can access the required documents here. Deadline for scholarship applications: March 31, 2016 (postmark). Incomplete applications will not be considered.

2) To the Forum Alpbach Network

The regional Clubs and IGs host many scholarship holders at the European Forum Alpbach. You can apply directly to your local organisation.

Depending on where the Member of the Forum Alpbach Network has its seat, the application should show a reference to the country. This means that the applicant grew up there, is a resident, has studied or is studying at a higher education establishment of the country in question.

The application criteria as well as the value of the grant can differ from those of the European Forum Alpbach. Please send your application documents directly to the respective Member of the Forum Alpbach Network.

Important remarks for scholarship applicants:

  • Provided that the application criteria are satisfied in each case, you can apply to a maximum of three different grant providers. If you are applying to several scholarship programmes (e.g. to the European Forum Alpbach Foundation and to several Members of the Forum Alpbach Network), please indicate this on the Supplementary Form (PDF). You can apply to a maximum of three different places.
  • Please avoid hotmail or outlook.com addresses as we have experienced numerous problems with delivery. Please also check your spam folder regularly.
  • Due to its geographical location and local conditions, the European Forum Alpbach is not entirely barrier-free. However people with disabilities can participate at all events of the European Forum Alpbach.
