Youth in Ukraine – Observations from Bukovyna

On 21 November, Ukraine will celebrate a new holiday – the Day of Dignity and Freedom. Many young people were amongst the driving forces of the so-called Revolution of Dignity; amongst those is a large number of students who will take their exams end of November until mid December and will be confronted with an education system that did not go through any changes. Since the Maidan events an even more vivid civil society has emerged. Various social groups, including youth, women, long existing civic actors and human rights activists as well as newcomers in the arena, have organised themselves and contributed to the development of the country towards democracy and a strengthened solidarity amongst people from all over the country. On the basis of observations made in the West Ukrainian periphery, in the Chernivtsi region, the discussion will be along the lines how Ukrainian digital natives perceive their every day life, including education, unemployment, Euro-Maidan, corruption, informal networks and even driving school.
