14: The United Nations Security Council

-
Hauptschule
Seminar / Seminar
english language

The United Nations Security Council is an international body which reflects the inequalities in the international community in its very statutes. What are the Security Council’s essential tasks, its possibilities and limits? Using concrete case studies, insiders will illustrate its activities and inner dynamic. The special role of the five permanent members, institutionalised in the UN Charter, will thereby also be presented. The question of to what extent the concept of the “world police” 70 years after the foundation of this international organisation is functional and justified will also be discussed.
