What does fair competition mean? Do human rights have a political and legal significance in the process of globalisation? What are adequate strategies to meet the millennium goals? Which role business can play?
Global trade has aggravated the competition between locations. How can Europe or the Wealthy North react to this challenge, how can security and certainty be imparted? How can the South be enabled to develop in a better way?
Is there security due to more or less regulation? Do self-commitments of the economy (CSR) play a role?

Abstract

|
RHI betreibt 28 Produktionsstandorte auf vier Kontinenten > historisch begründet noch mit Schwerpunkt Europa, in den letzten Jahren verstärkt in Zukunftsmärkten (China, Lateinamerika). In Folge der Globalisierung wurden die Standorte neu ausgerichtet: Spezialisierung, maximale Produktivität und Konzentration auf technologieintensive Produkte und Systeme in Europa sowie Expansion in den Wachstumsmärkten. Standorte in Zukunftsmärkten sichern indirekt Standorte und damit Arbeitsplätze in Europa. Voraussetzung ist Flexibilität und Mut zu Veränderungen.
Menschenrechte sind immer relevant. Internationale Unternehmen haben im Sinne eines Corporate Citizenship im Rahmen ihrer CSR für Mitarbeiter, Umwelt und Kommunen hier Verantwortung wahrzunehmen. RHI hat z.B. in China in den vergangenen Jahren 800 Arbeitsplätze mit überdurchschnittlichen Standards im Bereich Verdienst, Ausbildung, Aufstiegschancen, Sozialleistungen geschaffen und Standorte nach europäischen Umwelt- und Qualitätsstandards etabliert. Aber auch in Europa werden vielfältige Maßnahmen im Bereich Aus- und Weiterbildung gesetzt. |

| | Monika Langthaler-Rosenberg is scientific staff member at the "Österreichisches Ökologie-Institut" (Austrian Institute of Ecology). Between 1990 and 1999 she was member of the Austrian National Council and spokeswomen for the Green Party for environmental, energy and telecommunication issues. From 1998 to 1999 member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Monika Langthaler-Rosenberg finished her master studies Environmental Management (MSc) at the University of London. Numerous publications in the area of waste management, chemical policy, guidelines for strategic environmental assessments, environmental economics and citizen participation. She is founder and managing partner at the consultancy firm "brainbows the information company" specialized in sustainability and energy & climate, based in Vienna. Since 2010 she is member of the advisory board "Friends of Education Africa in Austria". Since 2014 she is director of the association "R20 Austria & EU" and member of the supervisory board of Allianz Elementar Insurance Group and Allianz Elementar Life Insurance Group. |
