Head, Unit for Länder and Regional Affairs, Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union, Brussels Abstract Key Note
Lobbying The Art of Dealing with Changes and Risks:
The internal market and the ongoing process of integration in every sector force industry and individual companies alike to take actively part in the EU legislation process. Those simply observing the developments will always be one step behind; those being proactive will influence the outcome, can set standards, and will survive even radical changes. Lobbying is one of the options to shape decisions and bring own views to the attention of decision makers. Meanwhile, lobbying is an integral part of the decision-making process in the European Union. Under the particular form of business-government-relations it became of mutual interest and benefit, too.
Representative for EU Affairs, CNC - Communications & Network Consulting AG, Brussels Abstract Key Note
Because of its significant and growing importance for many interests groups, Brussels, as the seat of most EU Institutions notably the ones preparing and adopting legislation has become an important focus for interest representation and lobbying. Networking is one of the most essential instruments for achieving useful results. However, there are also significant differences between the political processes at national level and in the EU. Hence, also political communication in Brussels follows sometimes different rules than nationally. Respecting Ten Golden Rules for Interest Representation definitively helps to be successful.
