Morning 08: Transformative Power of Art
In this seminar participants are invited to think about art as interdisciplinary and performance as a catalyst for discussions. Art and performance will enable us to experience who we are and who we want to be. Throughout history artists have searched for different spaces and social settings to produce and present their works. With the rise of new media and technology, as well as the necessity for immediate debates, they have affirmed their identity and place in the public sphere. Performative Arts emerged as a participatory process and continues to explore their potential to transform and influence political structures.
This seminar will explore how the fundamental value of art can be strengthened and how to make art practices fruitful and more accessible. The seminar will reflect on how artistic production can contribute to necessary changes in today’s society and consider the impacts of artists’ actions on others. The introduction of concepts and terminologies of Gender Theory will invite the participants to reinterpret the body as means of empowerment. Furthermore, artists’ works and day-to-day practices focusing on inclusivity, will be given as examples to demonstrate how gender-related tactics aim to empower individuals and communities.
