#EFAChallenges

The #EFAChallenges are an innovative digital learning format of the European Forum Alpbach, which allows Alpbach Alumni as well as members of selected partner networks to collaboratively work towards finding interdisciplinary solutions to the most relevant challenges of our time.

All participants who submit an idea will get a free ticket for the #EFA21 Online Conference.

In addition, a certain number of people with top ideas will get a scholarship to attend the European Forum Alpbach in the Austrian Alps this summer and a personal coaching workshop with leading experts in their fields. The top three teams will get 10.000€, 7.000€ and 5.000€ in project funding.

 

The Alpbach Challenges are divided into eight phases:

1. Challenge crowd-voting (until 23 March 2021):

During the first phase we presented a series of challenges related to the three thematic areas of this years’ forum: Securing our Future, The Climate Opportunity and Financing the Future of Europe. Using a crowd-voting process, participants selected the most relevant challenges they wish to tackle.

2. Challenge ideation Workshops (until 19 April 2021):

2. Challenge ideation Workshops (until 19 April 2021):  In the second phase participants will be invited to join a virtual ideation sprint workshop for each challenge. During this workshop, we will break down the challenge into specific issues clustering those into thematic areas. Participants will choose which area they would like to tackle and after conducting an ideation session will submit their draft ideas to our crowd innovation platform. Dates of the Ideation Workshops:

  • CLIMATE Ideation Workshop: Wednesday, 14 April 2021 (18:00  – 21:00 CEST)
  • FINANCE Ideation Workshop: Thursday, 15 April 2021 (18:00 – 21:00 CEST)
  • SECURITY Ideation Workshop: Friday, 16 April 2021 (18:00 – 21:00 CEST)
  • Urban Transformation (ERSTE GROUP)  Ideation Workshop: Monday, 19 April 2021 (18:00 – 21:00 CEST)

Please note: Enrolment in the workshops is only possible for Alpbach Alumni and members of selected partner networks. If you received an official invitation to join the Alpbach Challenges, then you qualify to participate.

3. Ideas refinement Workshops (until 1 May 2021): 

After submitting your ideas to the platform, participants and their teams will have the opportunity to refine their ideas and also provide their feedback to other teams online. In order to provide everyone with the chance to work further on their ideas, we will host a virtual refinement session where teams will have the chance to finalize their concepts.

Date of the Refinement Workshop: Monday, 26 April 2021 (18:00 – 20:00 CEST)

4. Ideas Submission: 

After refining the ideas, participants must submit the final ideas by 1 May 2021 (23:59 CEST) on the online platform.

5. Ideas Selection (until the end of May 2021):

All the ideas presented on the platform will be carefully reviewed by a group of experts that will select the most promising ideas!

6. Winner Announcement Ceremony:

The top idea teams will be announced in the first week of June 2021.

7. Self-organised working groups (Summer months, until 18 August 2021):

Finally, the participants that have submitted the most promising ideas will have the chance to receive personal coaching with experts in different fields to support them in the implementation of their proposals.

8. From Ideas to Action (18 August until 3 September 2021 and then in the fall months):

These teams will have the opportunity to prove their concepts during the European Forum Alpbach in August 2021 in Tyrol, Austria. The top 3 teams will get 10.000€, 7.000€ and 5.000€ in project funding!

 

Important information:

  • Participants can create an idea on their own, which they can briefly present and discuss during the ideation workshop. But in order to qualify for the selection, participants must submit the idea as a team (2 to 7 people, ideal team size: 3-4 people).
  • Those participants who do not have a team yet – you will get a chance to create teams according to your thematic interest during the ideation workshops.
  • The deadline for the submission of ideas is 1 May 2021 at 23:59 CEST
