The Alpbach Summer Schools are training courses that last several days during the European Forum Alpbach. Under the guidance of renowned experts, participants have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in different fields.
Alpbach Summer School on Entrepreneurship
The Summer School focuses on the development of winning action plans for innovative ideas. The programme comprises keynote and practical teaching sessions, interactive workshops and tailored support through professional coaching and expert clinics. The contributors are experienced trainers, entrepreneurs and innovators who have perfected their methodology of coaching start-ups over more than ten years in the Cambridge Network – one of the world’s leading technology clusters. The overall aim of the Summer school is to coach young researchers on how to assess the commercial viability of their research and develop plans for new venture creation with global potential.
Alpbach Summer School on Facilitation and Participatory Leadership
„Art of Hosting“ is a philosophy and practice which trains and empowers individuals from all sectors of society to facilitate meaningful and fruitbringing dialogue among small and large groups. Art of Hosting trainings provide participants with tools and skills to take a participatory approach in problem solving, strategy development, reflection and leadership.
Alpbach Summer Schools on European Law and European Integration
Since 1992, the Alpbach Summer Schools on European Integration have been held to explain the workings of the European Union and the legal structure of European integration. The courses are taught by renowned professors, with guest lecturers from the domains of politics, diplomacy and business adding a good measure of practical input. Depending on the course, different levels of previous knowledge are requested.
Alpbach Summer School on European Health Care and Social Systems in Transition
Since 2008, the European Forum Alpbach has also organised the English-language Summer School ‘Health Care and Social Systems’. This summer school addresses the hot topic of organizing and financing health care and social systems in Europe and is directed at future healthcare decision-makers. It offers eminent international lecturers as well as numerous case studies and aim to jointly build scenarios for the healthcare systems in the participants’ home countries.

EU Summer University on Strategic Trade Control and Non-Profileration
The first EU Summer University on Strategic Trade Control and Non-Proliferation will take place from 18-24 August 2015 at the European Forum Alpbach, Austria. The programme has been designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the various interrelated issues concerning the international trade in dual-use items and non-proliferation. The Summer University will be a unique opportunity for participants to discuss and gain valuable insights into current strategic trade issues and emerging challenges from a regional perspective.
During the five-day programme, participants will discuss developments and trends in non-proliferation; non-proliferation principles and rules; strategic trade control principles and rules; and national and international trade control systems.
The Summer University is organised within the framework of the EU Outreach Programme in Export Control of Dual-Use Items and is supported by King’s College London. The number of participants has been limited to 35 to allow for efficient interaction with lecturers and between the participants. The Summer University offers participants the possibility to obtain an EU Certificate on Strategic Trade Control and Non-Proliferation which will be awarded based on a final evaluation at the end of the course.
