European Forum Alpbach Foundation Scholarships

The online registration starts from February 20, 2018. The deadline for applications is March 30, 2018, 11:59 hrs (noon CET).

Who can apply?

The grant to participate in the Seminar Week and the Alpbach Symposia is available to people up to 30 years of age. We welcome applications from all countries (except Austria) and academic disciplines and also encourage artists an non-graduates to apply. All Austrian applications are processed through one of our Austrian Clubs or Initiative Groups.

There is a special application process for students from China, in cooperation with the OeAD (Austrian Exchange Service). If you are a student from China, please click below on ‘Exceptions’ for detailed information.

The Forum Alpbach Network is offering additional scholarships. Please refer to the website of the respective Clubs and Initiative Groups to apply. Your application should include a reference to the country or your Austrian federal state if you are applying. These reference points may be: place of birth, current residency, address during the academic year.

What does a scholarship include?

A basic scholarship covers the participation fee (EUR 1.400) for the whole duration of the event (15.08.-31.08.2018).
Should you not have sufficient funds to cover the costs of your stay, you can additionally apply for a full scholarship providing accommodation (EUR 510) and a daily allowance for food (EUR 289). Please indicate in your online application if you wish to be considered for a full scholarship. If you can provide proof of financial support for your studies, you do not need to explain your financial situation in writing. In that case, please include relevant proof (e.g. student grant) in your application.

How to apply

You can apply for a scholarship awarded by the European Forum Alpbach Foundation via our online application section.

A complete application requires a filled in online application form as well as a motivational statement, a curriculum vitae, certificates and transcripts and proof of English proficiency. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.

When to apply

Our next call for applications starts on February 20 and ends on March 30, 2018 at 11:59 hrs (noon CET).

Please make sure to submit a complete application. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Late submission of missing documents will not be considered. Only applications via the online application form are accepted. Applications via email will not be considered.

Exceptions

In cooperation with the OeAD (Austrian Exchange Service), the European Forum Alpbach Foundation offers scholarships to students from China.

Master students and PhD candidates (maximum 30 years of age) from the following Chinese universities can apply for a scholarship for the European Forum Alpbach 2018: Fudan University, Peking University, Tsinghua University, China University of Political Science and Law, Renmin University, China Foreign Affairs University. Applications from other Chinese universities will not be considered.

If you are studying at one of these universities, you have to apply directly via the Foreign Affairs Office of your university by sending them your CV and a motivational statement. Nominated students are invited for an interview at the Austrian Embassy in Peking. The interviews will take place by the end of April 2018.
