What does certainty mean? When can we speak of certainty in knowledge?
Is there even such a thing in science and research? The Alpbach Seminar Week will address
this topic in 12 seminars, with subject areas ranging from the most precise of all sciences - mathematics - to the question of certainty in religious beliefs. The question of individual
certainty in a globally networked world is very current, especially in areas such as legal security, securing jobs and health care, Europe s development and the accompanying uncertainty of citizens, as well as today s world order and the need to secure resources.
After the presentation of the seminars on Thursday, August 17 at 7 pm, the seminars 1, 2,
3, 4, 5, 6 will meet daily (except Sunday, August 20) from 9 am to 12 am from August 18 to 24.
The seminars 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 will meet daily from 1:30 to 4:30 pm (Sunday from 4 pm to
7 pm) from August 18 to 23.
