A BarCamp is an “ad-hoc” conference open to the general public.
Every participant contributes to the event, for example by presenting, taking part in discussions or asking questions. The format was developed in the Silicon Valley, and since then, hundreds of BarCamps have been held all around the world. A BarCamp is most suitable for laying out new ideas, discussing projects and getting to know interesting people. The content and the schedule are decided by the participants: the agenda is agreed on collectively at the beginning of the event. The BarCamp is envisioned as a forum where the participants of the European Forum Alpbach talk about their own fields of interest and connect them to others.
The overall topic of the BarCamp is the concept of “Transformations” in all its facets. Starting off from the general topic “Experience and Values”, it aims to identify changes in science and society. Politics, economy, law, research and culture are all undergoing more or less transparent transformations. New forms of creativity, participation and self-organization are emerging. Many of these are related to the digital world in which we live. New concepts of democracy, security and knowledge are challenging traditions and long-established institutions.
Here are some of the questions proposed for discussion:
How do you experience transformations in your environment?
On which concepts and ideas are these transformations based?
What collective experiences influence our way of thinking?
How are learning processes transforming?
In which way are values changing (societal, ethical, moral, etc.)?
Which challenges and dangers can we expect?
Additional questions, contributions and topics for discussion from all fields of research and practice are explicitly welcome. We invite you to send in (informal) suggestions for sessions. You decide in which way you would like to present: give a talk, start a discussion round, or even raise a question targeted at the other participants.
Participation is free of charge. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Registration: Use this Registration Form.
We look forward to seeing you there!
