There are only a few other areas in our society that develop and change as rapidly as the technology sector, or, more precisely, cyberspace. Digital innovation has gradually become a part of nearly all areas of daily life.

What are the implications of Open Data for the further development of our democracy ? In which way can states, organisations and individuals react to threats from cyberspace? What chances and pitfalls does ‘Big Data’, the enormous amount of data and datasets, bring?  What would the actual consequences of a digital black-out be? These kinds of questions are no longer only of concern to experts, but to all citizens.

This year,  the European Forum Alpbach will take the overarching topic ‘Experiences and Values’ into the digital world and discuss questions such as the influence of new developments in cyberspace on our society and on the way our normative and value system is formed and challenged.  These questions will be highlighted from different perspectives in the course of the Seminar Week, the Alpbach Symposia, as well as in breakout sessions, panel discussions and a BarCamp. The insights gained on the topic ‘Cyber’ in the different sessions will be compiled and made available online at the end of the Forum.

All contributions to the cross-cutting topic ‘Cyber’ can be found here.
