1972-89 attorney for the Federal Republic in all legal actions and proceedings taken by Germany in the European Court of Justice

 legal advisor of the German Delegation to the 1991-92 conference of Maastricht on European Economic and Monetary Union
 on 1997 retired as senior official of Germany's Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs, Department for European Integration
