The European Forum Alpbach is putting on a Financial Market Symposium at the highest level – literally. A short mountain hike gives participants the chance to meet inspiring figures from the international financial industry and, of course, enjoy the picturesque mountain scenery of Alpbach.*

* In case of bad weather the group will have a snack in a “Stube” in Alpbach.

 Katherine Foster is CIO of the Sustainable Digital Finance Alliance a public-private partnership between the UN Environment Program and Ant Financial Services Group, and partner to the UN SG’s Task Force for Digital Financing of the Sustainable Development Goals. Katherine has been spearheading initiatives at the nexus of innovation, policy and sustainable development for over 25 years. A former Canadian diplomat specialized in human security and climate, she began building out initiatives in Europe including as Innovation Lead in Switzerland and then Business Development Lead for the EU’s Climate-KIC, accelerating 1000 startups and 300 innovation partnerships globally. She has also served as a lecturer at several universities, an advisor and judge with the UNDP Accelerate2030, the Ashoka Changemaker Program, NESTA UK, the MIT IIC, and the EU EIT Food, as an expert to World Bank's Blockchain Carbon Markets Pilot, and as CSO to BLOC an MIT Solve Fellow. Katherine focuses on harnessing emerging technologies for sustainable finance.

Fred HOCHBERG

 Fred P. Hochberg is a seasoned business executive and government leader, who has navigated organizations through rough waters and brought them to new heights. He recently concluded eight years of service as Chairman and President of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM), where he became the longest serving Chairman in the agency’s history and one of the highest-ranking LGBT Americans in any U.S. administration. From 2004 to 2008, Hochberg was dean of the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy at the New School in New York City. From 1998 to 2001, Hochberg served as Deputy, and then Acting Administrator of the SBA in the Clinton administration. Prior to his service at SBA, Hochberg was the long-time president and chief operating officer of the Lillian Vernon Corporation, where he led the transformation of a small, family-owned mail order company into an international, publicly traded direct marketing corporation. Hochberg is a past Board Commissioner of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and the Citizens Budget Commission, and a Director of FINCA International Micro Finance, Fusion Telecommunications, the Woodrow Wilson Center for Scholars, and the Lillian Vernon Corporation. He was also an appointed representative to the New York State Financial Control Board. Hochberg has been a champion of expanding LGBT rights and promoting LGBT leadership in all sectors of the economy. He served as a board member and later as co-chair of the Human Rights Campaign, and is the founder of the David Bohnett LGBT Leadership.
