In cooperation with the museum of modern art in Vienna

A quintessential interest of Vienna Actionism was the experience of the human body in all its aspects – including the socially tabooed or those connected to fears. Günter Brus, to whom this exhibition is dedicated, was one of the main protagonists of this movement. Transgressing his initial medium of painting, he has worked “directly” with real bodies, objects and substances in space and time. With his radical questioning of artistic as well as social values his art caused uproar and scandal in postwar Austria, but it also provoked essential discussions and co-initiated changes in the way we perceive and think.
