Morning 01: Leading a Good Life in the 21st Century
We live in turbulent times. Global disruptions including political upheaval, the digital revolution and an ever-escalating climate crisis form an uncertain basis for modern human live in the 21st century. How should we lead our lives in this chaotic phase? What ought to be our moral compass? Research has shown that humans need autonomy, relatedness and competence for their wellbeing. Nothing seems more important and therefore more difficult than to understand how to choose the right path, in which one can best thrive. One’s self-determination should ideally be aligned with one’s teleological existence. However, the digital world of gadgets, services and temptations often seems undermine the pursuit of good life.
The goal of this seminar is to acquaint participants with both the wisdom of antiquity and a contemporary way of thinking about what it means to live a good life. It will inform participants about the rediscovered meaning of teleology, the importance of virtues, and the concept of eudaimonia.
