“Character is destiny” is a quote attributed to the Greek philosopher Heraclitus. The word “character” carries two meanings: the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. How can one construct an enigmatic, interesting, ambiguous, complex and at the same time convincing character in literature? Are there moral obligations in this construction? What can we learn from this for dealing with prejudice? This seminar tries to counteract the drifting apart of society by means of literary tools.
