Every country has to ask itself whether it produces the technology it needs itself or whether it has secure access to it in the future. Especially for critical technological infrastructure (e.g., quantum computing, blockchain, medical or biomechanical research), this is a delicate question. Alongside the USA and China, this can be Europe’s big opportunity – but why is it that Europe continues to be slow in developing and advancing critical technologies? And what can a step forward look like?
