Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The European Union’s motto, “United in Diversity,” is also a guiding principle of the European Forum Alpbach (EFA). We firmly believe that diversity is valuable and enriching. It is through the power of diversity that we generate our best ideas and work together to create solutions that strengthen Europe.

We are committed to ensuring that the EFA event reflects the diversity of Europe and actively contributes to a more inclusive and diverse future.

We also strive to be an inclusive employer, fostering a diverse team and respecting the individual needs and strengths of every person – regardless of ethnicity, skin colour, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, age, religion, political beliefs, national origin, or any other defining characteristic.

We recognize that diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are ongoing processes. We are committed to continual learning, growth, and reflection – challenging our own biases, raising awareness, and implementing visible, impactful solutions. Beyond fulfilling legal requirements, we are dedicated to the following measures.

Our Guidelines

Diversity & Inclusion at Our Events

We foster awareness of a diverse and inclusive Europe by making the topic visible at our events, inviting diverse participants, creating a safer space for mutual learning, and optimizing accessibility.

Fair Workplaces & Inclusive Environments

We embed DEI at the heart of our workplace by removing barriers, cultivating a respectful team culture, and supporting a healthy balance between professional and personal needs.

Inclusive Communication

Our communication raises awareness of a diverse and inclusive Europe and is designed to be accessible and barrier-free.

Engaging Stakeholders

We see our stakeholders as essential to building a diverse and inclusive EFA. We aim to increase diversity among contributors and participant representation. We also encourage our partners to adopt and champion our DEI values.

Our Goals

  • Create a safer space at the EFA event
  • Establish DEI as a core element of our workplace culture (including recruitment, work-life balance, and team dynamics)
  • Optimize accessibility across the event, website, and workplace
  • Increase diversity among contributors and participant representation
  • Boost participant diversity, with a focus on talent development
  • Promote awareness of a diverse, inclusive Europe at the event
  • Foster awareness of a diverse, inclusive Europe across all communications

Pronouns

The European Forum Alpbach allows all employees and participants to specify their pronouns. Employees can include their pronouns in their email signatures. Participants can add their pronouns to the event badges, which are worn throughout the EFA, in addition to their names.

Alpbach is what you make of it!
