The autonomy and emancipation of ideas substance, colour and form, combined with the far-reaching liberation from mimesis, have turned the arts from a manual craft into a work of the intellect. The dividing lines between art and theory, between art and philosophy, between art and everyday life, between art and mediation, have become blurred. Will pervasive aestheticism and stylisation turn everything into art or have we arrived at the end of the history of art?
