The village of Alpbach not only lends its name to the Forum but also has been its home since 1945. Set in the midst of the Tyrolean Alps, this mountain village radiates a unique atmosphere far away from the stress of big cities.
The picturesque scenery is characteristic to the Forum: Unconventional formats such as Hikes spark ideas that go beyond the usual ways of thinking. The Alpine surroundings invite the participants to engage in direct and open discourse, casually creating networks while at the same time having the chance to relax.
Find the map of Alpbach here, including all key locations related to the EFA, as well as the layout of the Congress Centrum Alpbach (CCA) – our main event venue.
An ambulance/paramedics team will be present in Alpbach during the Forum.
Next to the Forum’s exciting programme, participants can relax and recharge in the beautiful Alpbachtal. If you have some free time outside of the programme, the region offers a variety of activities to explore: Take the Wiedersbergerhorn cable car up to the summit, enjoy a hike through the scenic Kaiserklamm gorge, or relax with a swim in one of the many natural lakes in the area.
For more tips, visit the Alpbachtal Tourism website.

It is of utter importance to the European Forum Alpbach that everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected. These principles are outlined in our Code of Conduct, which all participants agree to when purchasing a ticket. To uphold this commitment, an ombusteam has been established, available to all Forum participants throughout the event.
Our two ombudspersons, Nick Jakobs and Sophie Rendl, are experts in psychosocial counselling, anti-discrimination, and the Austrian legal system. They serve as a confidential, trustworthy point of contact during the Forum.
Meet the Ombudspersons:
Whether you experience or witness inappropriate behaviour or simply feel uncomfortable, the ombudspersons are here for you.
When a concern is raised, people should identify themselves in order to facilitate communication; however, they can also remain anonymous. Your privacy is always respected.
The ombudspersons respond with speed, clarity and empathy, aiming to:
Important: No action is taken without your consent.
Conversations can be held in English or German. The responsibility for inappropriate behaviour always lies with the perpetrator – and it is up to the affected person to define what feels like harassment or overstepping.
Every case is taken seriously, no matter when it happens. The ombudspersons act independently, confidentially, and in line with GDPR, always prioritising the needs of the affected person.
In 2023, the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN) launched the Awareness Initiative in close cooperation with the EFA and the Team of ombudspersons. This initiative serves as a low-threshold point of contact for participants – especially first-time scholarship holders – who feel uncomfortable during the Forum.
Members of the Awareness Initiative, also known as “Aware Friends”, are well-versed in EFA’s policies and act as multipliers of the Code of Conduct. You will find them at both daytime and evening events, identifiable by the buttons on their badges.
The Aware Friends:
The Awareness Initiative is here to listen, guide and support, helping ensure that everyone feels safe and included throughout the Forum.
