This is the first event of a three-part series which explores how Europe is culturally imagined, politically constituted and continually redefined through its relationship with others. The series moves from the stories and artistic expressions through which Europeans make sense of a shared space, to the political question of who belongs to that space and under what conditions, and finally to the perspectives of those who encounter Europe from beyond its borders. In doing so, the series asks not only what Europe is, but how Europe becomes what it is – and how Europe might redefine its relationship with itself and with others in a changing world.
The series is jointly organized by the Stiftung Zukunft Berlin, the Charlemagne Prize Foundation and the European Forum Alpbach. This session is part of the Berlin Conference 2026.
