She has been a Member of the European Parliament and one of its Vice-Presidents since 2019. She serves on the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and is a Substitute Member of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice, and Home Affairs. She was the lead candidate for her party, the SPD, in the European elections in 2019 and 2024.
