Maribel Königer
She is Director Journalism and Media at ERSTE Foundation in Vienna, where she is responsible for programmes that support quality journalism and public interest media in Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. She represents ERSTE Foundation on the supervisory board of Pluralis. In 2024, ERSTE Foundation became a shareholder and co-initiator of the Media Forward Fund, which supports innovative business models for public interest media in the DACH region. Maribel is also a member of the Steering Committee of the Journalism Funders Forum. She holds a master‘s degree in art history and history and started her career as an art critic and journalist in her hometown Munich and in Paris, later working as a press officer for international cultural events. In 2007, she joined ERSTE Foundation as Head of Communications. Since 2017, she has been in charge of its journalism and media programme.
