From August 2015 onwards, he worked alongside Christian Konrad as a refugee coordinator, overseeing the efforts of the federal government, state governments, local authorities, and NGOs to provide refugees with accommodation and support. He placed particular emphasis on engaging with and supporting civil society and local mayors.
