In 2020, he was ranked first by Reuters as the most influential climate scientist worldwide. He is IIASA's Program Director for Energy, Climate and Environment and advises the EU and UN on the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, he is on the Scientific Advisory Board of the City of Vienna.
