She has worked on industry and trade issues since 1994, serving in the cabinets of Pascal Lamy and José Manuel Barroso and leading the private office of Development Commissioner Louis Michel. Later, as a director in the Secretariat-General, she coordinated economic, social, and environmental policies. In 2016, she became Deputy Director-General of DG Trade, overseeing multilateral trade policy, transatlantic relations, and trade defence. Until May 2019, she was the Deputy Chief Negotiator for Article 50 of the TEU talks with the UK.
