The EFA visited Tirol to present the EFA26 programme, building on its long-standing connection with the region that has shaped it for more than eight decades and highlighting the important role of regions in shaping Europe’s future.
In Alpbach, a community roundtable brought together Othmar Karas with citizens, municipal representatives, and other members and stakeholders of the Alpbach community. In this informal yet substantive setting, participants gained insights into the EFA26 programme and engaged in an open discussion. The exchange reflected a defining characteristic of the Forum: while European in scope, it remains deeply rooted in the local community that has hosted it for more than eight decades. In recognition of this unique relationship, all residents of the Alpbachtal will, for the first time, receive free access to the Forum in 2026. The gathering reaffirmed the idea that meaningful European dialogue often begins at the local level – in conversation, proximity, and mutual appreciation.
In Innsbruck, a press brunch brought together Othmar Karas and Euregio President and Governor of Tirol Anton Mattle. The event offered insights into the programme, but also focused on a broader question: how can Europe respond to the challenges of an increasingly complex world? The important role of regions was emphasised as a key part of the answer. Mattle underlined in particular that while the Forum asks the question “How Europe Wins”, the Euregio Days offer their own answer: Europe wins with strong regions. The Euregio Days (28.8-30.8.) highlight the close cooperation between the European Forum Alpbach and the Euregio Tirol–South Tyrol–Trentino. Open to all interested participants free of charge, the Euregio Days also reflect the Forum’s commitment to making European dialogue broadly accessible and inclusive. Regional media closely followed the discussion and reported on the key messages shared during the event.
The events in Alpbach and Innsbruck highlighted the close relationship between the European Forum Alpbach and Tirol and reinforced the Forum’s long-standing conviction that Europe’s future depends not only on decisions taken in capitals and institutions, but also on the strength, innovation, and cooperation of its regions.
