Gabriel Felbermayr

Gabriel has been Director of the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) in Vienna and University Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) since October 2021. He was born in Steyr (Austria) in June 1976. After studies in economics and trade at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, he went to the European University Institute in Florence, where he received his PhD with essays on growth in open economies. From 2010 to 2019, he headed the Ifo Center for International Economics at the University of Munich, where he was also a full professor of international economics. From 2019 to September 2021, he led the Kiel Institute for the World Economy as president. Gabriel has held various roles and positions. The most important are: Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection, Chairman of the Statistics Council of Statistics Austria, Associate Editor of the European Economic Review, Associate Editor of the Journal of the European Economic Association.
