Günter Liebel began his professional career at the Environment Agency Austria. From 2005 he headed the Directorate for Environment and Climate Protection, from 2020 the Directorate for Water Management, and until the end of 2023 he served as Secretary General of the Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management. To this day he remains committed to knowledge transfer and awareness-raising around climate protection and climate change adaptation.
