He has been Group CEO of UBS Group until March 2023, having joined UBS in September 2020. Under his leadership, UBS delivered historically strong financial results and initiated several digital approaches to banking and wealth management. He stepped down after a successful rescue of Credit Suisse in March. Prior to joining UBS, Hamers was CEO of ING Group, where he spent 29 years of his career. He steered the bank to profitability after the financial crisis and initiated the firm’s digital transformation.
